How are Rubber Chicken Cards Made?
As you can see it takes the creativity and talents of many people to make a Rubber Chicken greeting card. The Process of making a Rubber Chicken card is also one that is more “complex” than you may think.

We’re going to share our “secret formula” and walk you through the step by step process of creating a Rubber Chicken card with us. Come on!

STEP 1 - The Drawing:
First we need to have a basic drawing of the character which is done by our Chief Chicken himself, Steve Rotblatt. Click the images below to watch the movies.


Step 2 - Write the Script

A greeting card is just a pretty picture without the right words. Once we have our characters created we need to give them the words to say to make your greeting special. It truly takes the creativity and efforts of many different people to come up with the words our characters say to you. From the Chief Chicken himself, to the actors who give the characters their voices, to everyone involved with Rubber Chicken Cards giving input; a script for each card is written, proofed, and performed to say those right words to make someone’s day.

Step 3 - Voice over recording
This is when we bring in our actors to give not only voices but personality to all of our great characters. This is one of the most important steps because these actors give the character the ability to say those important...maybe - words that make our cards so unique. We're going to take the recordings of two different cards - "Marlene and Dave Passover" and "Roadshow."

STEP 4 - Edit the Voice Over Recordings:

Now that our actors have recorded their voices and had some fun, we need to edit some of that. What happens in this step finding the right track (recording) or the right part or parts of various tracks (recordings) that can be used. We need to edit out any laughing in the middle of their lines, coughing, or any other various ambient sounds that may be able to be heard on the track.

STEP 5 – Send Sounds and Drawings to Animators:

Time to call on those animation people! Steve has drawn the characters and recored their voices. Now it’s time to send the drawings and final sound files to the animators so they can edit in the voices to the characters. This is more complex than you might think. Yeah, so they add the sound big woop right? Wrong! They have to go back and edit the motions of the characters lips, eyes, and overall facial expressions to perfectly match that of the actors voice. This is the step that REALLY makes it or breaks as far as the realism of the character. Major props to these guys!
