The International Day of Peace, also known as the World Peace Day, occurs annually on the 21st day of September. It is dedicated to peace, and specifically the absence of war, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone for humanitarian aid access. It is observed by many nations, political groups, military groups, and peoples. The first year this holiday was celebrated was 1981.
We losers here at Rubber Chicken Cards honor this day as a day in hope that the human race will someday get its poop in group and engage peace globally, that or the aliens will finally come down and give us all a good galactic spanking for being so juvenile.
On so many levels, we humans are so stubborn and devoted to our own opinions and beliefs that we'll fist fight someone just because they are routing for the rival of our favorite sports team.
Science vs. religion, vegans vs. carnivores, chocolate vs. vanilla, it seems that we can't tolerate and graciously handle even a slight difference of opinion that we slowly begin unconsciously shifting from a patriot into a nationalist. It could be simply argued that we just don't like being put outside of our comfort zones in any way, that it all boils down to the smallest form of fear.
Has there ever been a time where there has not been some sort of war? Though most human beings strive for a better and peaceful life, sadly our leaders seem to want to build empires, police the world, take over lands that clearly are not ours. This is the history of the world - and we flesh and blood beings should hang our heads in shame.
It seems odd to even call those in power adults, when they are acting like children in a sandbox, fighting over the biggest toy. Okay, what the heck do we do with this reality of never ending war? We slowly change the world one giggle at a time by sending International Day of Peace ecards from yours truly. Will that stop the wars and bring us peace? You betcha! That's why we do it.
So, think. Who do you know that believes that the world might be able to live in peace? They are the perfect person to send one of our International Day of Peace cards. And by the way, one of our ecards features God. It's time for peace!
