Martin Luther King, Jr. Day cards

Happy King Day to All!

Dr. King was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 15th, 1929. He was murdered April 4th, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. During his all too short, but inspiring life, Dr. King proved through his actions and words to be truly one of THE most influential and exemplary Americans in this and the previous century. Dr. King deserves a national holiday simply for his own tireless devotion to ending discrimination in the United States. But, as the new year unfolds in front of us, this holiday, known affectionately as "King Day" or "MLK Day", is also a moment for all of us to re-commit ourselves to fighting for our own and others' equal and civil rights. We here at Rubber Chicken Cards have created Martin Luther King Jr. Day cards to honor this great human being. Please send RCC MLK Day cards to people you love. And let's celebrate his legacy by taking direct action to win equality, democracy and rights for everyone.

To quote King himself, "Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but through continuous struggle. We must straighten our backs and work for our freedom.". Why celebrate MLK Day?! Here's a few good reasons, hey, J. Edgar Hoover, are you still listening?!

  • Passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
  • Passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965
  • The "official" end of Apartheid in the U.S., aka, Jim Crow laws overturned.
The passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 authorizing the federal government to enforce desegregation of public accommodations and outlawing discrimination in publicly owned facilities. This also led to Martin Luther King receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for 1964.
The 1963 historic "March on Washington", led by King, drew more than 200,000 people, who heard King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Reason enough to celebrate the work and legacy of people uniting to ensure each other's equality, dignity and freedom. Happy King Day!
